LG unveils new Netbook

Friday, September 5th, 2008

LG has revealed its latest Netbook at consumer electronics show IFA 2008 in Berlin.

The X110 Netbook has a choice of either an 80GB or 120GB hard drive and built-in 3G HSDPA for connecting to the internet alongside both wireless and wired-connectivity options.

Jeon Kwang Yung, LG Electronics PC division vice-president, said: "The 3G embedded and stylish X110 will provide customers with a totally new concept in mobile telecommunications."

The new Netbook from LG also sports a ten-inch 1,024 x 600 screen, a 1.6GHz processor and 1GB of RAM.

LG has abandoned supplying its Netbook with a Linux-based operating system in favour of Microsoft’s Windows XP.

According to Business Standard, low cost computing with Microsoft’s Windows operating system is a step further for laptop developers – making open source software not necessarily the cheapest option.

Ravi Venkatesan, chairman of Microsoft India, told the news provider: "Our aim is to propel a wider acceptance for IT amongst the masses by extending an opportunity to learn, connect, create, and succeed."

Document-processing system from Kodak

Friday, September 5th, 2008

Kodak has created a solution to help paper-intensive businesses streamline their workload.

The s1740 Capture System allows firms to automate the way they digitise and process documents, resulting in reduction in the cost and time spent on such tasks.

Incorporating a high-speed scanner, operating software, and inline document separation capabilities, the s1740 has uses in payment and invoice processing, mailroom procedures and document storage.

The product is able to process up to 110 pages per minute and can deal with documents of various sizes and formats through its 1,400 sheet feeder and image-processing features.

Eric Olsen, a marketing manager with Kodak’s graphic communications group, commented: "End users are increasingly seeking to solve business problems and improve efficiency through a single, total solution."
