SMEs are warned to protect against data damage
Following the recent flooding across the UK, independent data recovery specialist CBL has received a string of data recovery requests, particularly from small and medium sized businesses (SMEs), the company has revealed.
It is estimated that as many as 7,000 businesses have been directly affected by the flooding activity. Compared to the same period last year, CBL has carried out 23 per cent more recoveries for SMEs.
While some firms have had their paper backups of critical documents destroyed by the flooding, others are trying to recover files from water damaged servers.
With data and computer software a critical element to the operation of any business, CBL chief executive Bill Margeson advised SMEs to ensure that their insurance policy covers the cost of data recovery.
"Our skilled technicians have recovered data from hard drives which have been seriously soiled by mud slides, melted by infernos or buffeted by heavy storms", he said.
The Association of British Insurers has urged businesses to consider business continuity cover, insurance that provides financial protection against data losses caused by events such as the recent flooding.
